True leadership in healthcare is measured not only by clinical expertise, but by the compassion, resilience, and hope we bring to every life we touch.
Every accomplished healthcare professional has a story that extends beyond hospital corridors. For Meridein Pacamana-Reyes, now an Emergency Travel Nurse at Sheikh Khalifa Medical City under the VIP Royal Assignments in Abu Dhabi, that story began with perseverance, sacrifice and a determination to turn adversity into opportunity.
A working scholar
Growing up in the Philippines, Meridein understood early that education would be her pathway to a better future. Coming from humble beginnings, she refused to let financial challenges define her ambitions. As a college scholar and honor student, she worked to support herself while pursuing her nursing degree, balancing employment with rigorous studies. Those years instilled the values that still define her: perseverance, humility, accountability and a commitment to excellence.
She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Centro Escolar University, where she was a Dean’s Lister, and went on to pass the Philippine Nursing Licensure Examination. She later pursued a Master of Arts in Nursing, major in Nursing Administration, at the University of the Philippines as a candidate, earning recognition as a University Scholar.
More than a decade across specialties
Meridein’s career spans more than a decade of multidisciplinary experience in emergency medicine, medical-surgical nursing, oncology, orthopedics, obstetrics and gynecology, critical care and public health. That breadth has prepared her to respond to complex clinical challenges while delivering compassionate, evidence-based care to diverse patient populations.
She approaches every patient interaction with empathy, every clinical decision with integrity, and every challenge as an opportunity to learn.
Leading through the pandemic
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Meridein served as a Team Leader for COVID-19 Response. She coordinated emergency nursing services, supported large-scale vaccination programmes, collaborated with multidisciplinary teams and helped strengthen community health initiatives during one of the most challenging periods in modern healthcare, leading calmly under pressure with patient safety at the centre.
Trained to international standards
A Philippine Registered Nurse and Department of Health Abu Dhabi Registered Nurse (HAAD-RN), she has completed training in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Basic Life Support (BLS), Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS), intensive care, emergency management, infection prevention and control, healthcare quality management, and occupational health and safety.
Recognized by the community
In September 2023, Meridein was honoured as one of the Top Healthcare Professionals by The Filipino Times, a UAE publication serving the Filipino community. The recognition celebrated her clinical expertise, professionalism and contributions to healthcare in the UAE.
Despite her accomplishments, she remains grounded in the belief that nursing is fundamentally a profession of service. Her leadership is defined not by titles but by the trust she earns from colleagues, the confidence she inspires in patients and the example she sets for aspiring healthcare professionals.
Resilience can overcome adversity, education can transform lives, and genuine compassion remains the greatest strength any healthcare professional can possess.
From a determined young scholar working to finance her education to a nurse serving at one of the Middle East’s leading healthcare institutions, Meridein’s journey is a celebration of Filipino excellence on the global stage.
Through dedication, lifelong learning and compassionate service, she shows the impact one nurse can make in advancing patient care and strengthening communities.
