Failure is just the start of a victorious journey.
For Jeffrey Nogoy Miguel, being a Filipino nurse is more than a profession. It is a calling rooted in compassion, resilience and malasakit. Originally from Pampanga, he has spent eight years in nursing and now works in pediatrics and orthopaedics in Dubai, carrying the lessons of home to every bedside.
A calling rooted in malasakit
While nursing requires knowledge and technical skills, Jeffrey believes what truly makes a difference is the way nurses care for people during the most vulnerable moments of their lives.
“For me, malasakit is not something we simply do; it is who we are. It is the quiet commitment to care beyond what is expected, to serve with empathy, and to leave every patient knowing that they mattered.”
“If I can ease someone’s fear, restore their dignity, or make them feel safe through my care,” he says, “then I know I have fulfilled the true purpose of nursing.”
Calm under pressure
Jeffrey takes pride in the resilience, adaptability and unwavering dedication of Filipino nurses: stepping forward when challenges arise, working with humility and giving their best despite difficult circumstances. These qualities, he says, have shaped him into a nurse who remains calm under pressure, works collaboratively with the healthcare team and always puts the patient’s well-being at the centre of every decision.
“That is the Filipino touch I hope to bring to every bedside: not just skilled hands, but a compassionate heart.”
Shaped by home
Growing up and studying in the Philippines prepared Jeffrey for nursing in ways that go beyond textbooks and clinical skills. It shaped his character, strengthened his values and taught him what it truly means to care for another person.
He carries those lessons wherever he practises. His Filipino upbringing reminds him to serve with humility and empathy, while his education gives him the confidence and competence to provide high-quality, evidence-based care. Together, they have shaped him into a nurse who not only treats illness but also touches lives with compassion, dedication and genuine malasakit.
