Goal

By the end of this lesson I can plan my week, break a big task into small steps, and use two study methods that help me remember more.

1. Warm-up (5 minutes)

Write down everything you have to do this week (school, chores, activities). Which one worries you most? Circle it.

2. Learn

Plan the week: write fixed things first (classes, practice), then put study blocks in the free spaces. Put the hardest subject when you have the most energy.

Break it down: a project due Friday becomes: Mon research · Tue outline · Wed draft · Thu check and finish.

Focus blocks (Pomodoro): 25 minutes study, phone in another room → 5 minute break. After 4 blocks, a longer break.

Two methods that work:

  • Active recall – close the book and test yourself (flashcards, write what you remember). Better than re-reading.
  • Spaced practice – review a little on several days (Day 1, Day 3, Day 7) instead of cramming the night before.

3. Worked example: Lia’s science test on Friday

Day Task (25 min blocks)
Mon Make 15 flashcards from the chapter (1 block)
Tue Self-test with flashcards; mark the ones I missed (1 block)
Wed Answer practice questions; review missed cards (2 blocks)
Thu Quick self-test, explain the hardest topic out loud to Mama (1 block)

4. Try it yourself

  1. What should you put in your weekly plan first?
  2. Break this into 4 steps: “Poster about climate change, due Thursday.”
  3. Which is better for remembering: re-reading notes 3 times, or closing the book and testing yourself? Why?
  4. What is spaced practice?
  5. How long is one Pomodoro focus block?
Show answers (parents)
  1. Fixed activities (classes, practices, family commitments).
  2. Example: Mon research facts · Tue sketch the layout · Wed draw and write · Thu final check.
  3. Testing yourself (active recall), because it makes your brain pull out the information, which builds memory.
  4. Reviewing a little over several days instead of all at once.
  5. 25 minutes (then a 5-minute break).

5. Real life (10 minutes)

Make your plan for next week. Put the task you circled in the warm-up into small steps across several days.

6. Check your understanding

Explain active recall and spaced practice in your own words.

For parents

Help your child see the plan, not do the work. Ask “What is your next small step?” and celebrate when they keep a focus block.
