Goal
By the end of this lesson I can list my interests and strengths, match them to two possible careers, and plan the next steps from Senior High to that career.
1. Warm-up (5 minutes)
Finish these sentences quickly: “Time flies when I am …” · “People ask me for help with …” · “I do not enjoy …”
2. Learn: the career match
A good career choice sits where three circles meet:
- Interests – what you enjoy.
- Strengths – what you are good at (grades, skills, feedback from others).
- Opportunity – jobs that are needed and pay enough to live on.
Pathway after SHS: college degree · TESDA / technical-vocational certificate · direct employment · entrepreneurship. Many careers can start one way and continue another (for example, work first, then study later).
3. Worked example: Paolo, Grade 11
Interests: computers, games, fixing things. Strengths: high grades in math; classmates ask him to fix their phones. Opportunity: IT support and software are in demand.
| Career | After SHS | First step this year |
|---|---|---|
| IT support specialist | Tech-voc certificate, then work | Learn basic networking online; help the school IT office |
| Software developer | BS Computer Science or IT | Join a coding club; build one simple website |
4. Try it yourself
- What are the three circles of a good career match?
- Name four pathways after Senior High.
- Ana loves helping people and does well in Biology. Suggest two careers.
- Why should you check “opportunity” and not only interests?
- Write one first step you can take this school year.
Show answers (parents)
- Interests, strengths, opportunity.
- College, technical-vocational (TESDA), employment, entrepreneurship.
- Examples: nurse, medical technologist, physical therapist, pharmacist.
- So the career has real jobs and a sustainable income.
- Any concrete action: talk to someone in the job, join a club, take a short online course, visit a college fair.
5. Real life (10 minutes)
Interview one adult about their job: what they do daily, what they studied, and what they wish they knew at your age.
6. Check your understanding
Fill in your own career-match table with two careers and a first step for each.
For parents
Ask questions instead of choosing for your child. Help them meet people who do the jobs they are curious about.
