Goal

By the end of this lesson I can introduce myself in English in four sentences and ask a friend three questions politely.

1. Warm-up (5 minutes)

Stand in front of a mirror. Smile and say: “Hello! Good morning!” three times – softly, normally, then loudly and clearly.

2. Learn: my 4-sentence introduction

  1. Name: “Hi! My name is ___.”
  2. Age and grade: “I am ___ years old and I am in Grade 3.”
  3. Home: “I live in ___.”
  4. Something I like: “I like ___ because ___.”

Question words: What · Where · Who · When · Why · How. Questions end with a rising voice and a question mark.

Polite words: please · thank you · excuse me · nice to meet you.

3. Worked example

Bea: Hi! My name is Bea. I am eight years old and I am in Grade 3. I live in Quezon City. I like drawing because I can make anything I imagine.
Migo: Nice to meet you, Bea! What do you like to draw?
Bea: I like to draw animals. How about you, Migo? What do you like?

4. Try it yourself

  1. Fill in: “My ___ is Carlo.”
  2. Choose the question word: “___ do you live?” (What / Where)
  3. Make a question: “you / like / do / what / food / ?”
  4. What do you say when someone tells you their name?
  5. Write your own 4-sentence introduction.
Show answers (parents)
  1. name
  2. Where
  3. “What food do you like?”
  4. “Nice to meet you!”
  5. Check that it has name, age and grade, where they live, and something they like with “because”.

5. Real life (10 minutes)

Introduce yourself in English to two family members. Ask each of them one question and listen to the answer.

6. Check your understanding

Say your introduction without looking at your notes. Then ask one “What” and one “Where” question.

For parents

Confidence comes before perfect grammar. Celebrate every try, repeat the correct sentence gently, and practise a little every day.
