This Grade 1 English – Free Self-Paced Course is a supplementary learning program designed to support young learners in developing basic reading, writing, and language skills.
The course is aligned with DepEd learning competencies and is organized into four (4) quarters to help learners progress gradually through foundational English skills, including letter recognition, phonics, simple word reading, early comprehension, and basic writing.
All lessons are delivered through a self-paced online learning system, allowing learners to study anytime, anywhere, with guidance from a parent or guardian. The course focuses on practice and reinforcement and does not include graded assessments or quizzes.

- 🔹 SECTION 1: Letters & SoundsThis quarter introduces learners to the English alphabet and basic letter sounds, forming the foundation of early reading skills. Learners will become familiar with uppercase and lowercase letters, identify vowels and consonants, and begin to connect letters with their corresponding sounds. Through simple explanations and guided practice, learners develop phonological awareness that prepares them for reading simple words in the next quarter.3
- 🔹 SECTION 2: Simple WordsIn this quarter, learners begin to read simple words and build basic vocabulary. The lessons focus on CVC (consonant-vowel-consonant) words, common sight words, and word families, helping learners recognize patterns in words. This section strengthens word recognition skills and builds reading confidence through repeated exposure and practice, supporting early fluency development.3
- 🔹 SECTION 3: Reading BasicsThis quarter helps learners move beyond word reading to understanding meaning in simple texts. Learners practice reading short phrases and simple sentences and learn how pictures support understanding. The lessons encourage learners to think about what they read, connect words with visuals, and express simple ideas, laying the groundwork for basic reading comprehension.3
- 🔹 SECTION 4: Writing BasicsThe final quarter focuses on developing early writing skills. Learners practice proper letter formation, write simple words, and begin composing short sentences using correct spacing, capitalization, and punctuation. With guided practice and encouragement, learners build confidence in expressing ideas through writing, reinforcing the reading skills developed throughout the course.3
